MILLBURY – Robert A. Hemming, 81, died Saturday, Sept. 29th at St. Francis Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Worcester.
He leaves his son, Bruce Hemming and his wife, Carol of Webster, his daughter, Laurie Weidman and her husband, Jon of Holliston and his son, Scott Hemming and his wife, Pamela of Webster; his loving partner, Marilyn Sthika of Millbury who past away May 2017; 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Robert was born in Worcester, and was the son of the late Wilfred and Leona (Dryden) Hemming. Robert attended Brookfield H.S. and graduated from Auburn H.S. His military service: Mass. National Guard 181st Infantry and 3rd Armored Division stationed in Germany. His rank was Spec. 4 US Army Reserve HQ Co. 376 Infantry. He was an expert marksman and earned the Expert Infantry Badge. He owned and operated Hemming Carpet stores and Hemming Carpet Mobile in Worcester and Fitchburg. He was a former member of Porsche Club of America and the Sports Car Club of America. He competed in his Porsche 911S for 10 years in auto cross, hill climbs and race tracks in and out of New England, with many wins in all type of events. He enjoyed cars, the gym, and golf. He was a member of Clear view Country Club for 20 years and enjoyed the guys, the game and the challenge. He was lucky enough to have had 4 Hole in One and a Double Eagle.
Family and friends will honor and remember Bob’s life by gathering for a time of visitation on Tuesday Oct. 2nd from 4 to 7 p.m. at Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 N. Main Street in Millbury. His funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be private at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Leukemia Fund donate3.cancer.org.
