MILLBURY - Robert J Hines Jr, 74, a devoted husband and father passed away peacefully with his loving family at his bedside at his “Happy Place” on Ramshorn Pond, Thursday, August 23rd 2018.
Bob was born in Worcester to Robert and Frieda (McKinstry) Hines. Bob moved to Millbury with his family and attended Millbury public schools. Bob joined the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and prior to being deployed was discharged to take care of his ailing father and support his family.
Bob’s extensive career as a Senior Process Engineer brought him to many employers seeking his talents & knowledge including Raytheon and Lockheed Martin. Bob retired in 2003 to continue with his hobby of fixing many types of clocks under his company name The Clock Works.
Bob is survived by his wife Dorothy (Deveau) Hines; sister Kathleen Whitten; two daughters, Cara Bernard and her husband, Louie, Colleen McGrail and her husband, Matt; a son James Hines and his wife Trichia; grandchildren, Lauren and Meaghan Bernard, Aidan, Brody and Logan McGrail, Abigail and Madison Hines, along with many nieces and nephews. Bob was predeceased by his parents, a brother, Ronnie and a brother-in-law, William Whitten Sr.
Bob enjoyed many things in life, traveling with family and friends, spending time with the family at his lake house, his grandchildren and cooking. He was a ‘Jack of All Trades’, there was nothing he couldn’t fix!
Bob spent much of his time volunteering to help others in various ways, including at the Worcester County food pantry, St. Mark’s weekly fish fry and Haitian Coalition, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family on Monday August 27th, from 4 - 7pm in the Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 North Main Street in Millbury. His funeral will be on Tuesday, August 28th, with a funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 356 Boston Road in Sutton. Burial will follow in West Millbury Cemetery where he will be laid to rest with his parents. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Haitian Fund ℅ St Mark’s Parish, 356 Boston Road, Sutton, MA 01590.
