MILLBURY - Robert L. Leary, 77, of 30 Upton St., died Saturday, Dec. 1, in his home, after an illness.
His wife of 48 years, Rose M. (Setaro) Leary died in 1993. He leaves a son, Dennis R. Leary of Millbury; a daughter, Diana Webberly of Long Island, New York; three sisters, Doris Sclar and Pearl Hannratty both of Millbury and Olive Hickory of Cape Cod; a granddaughter; a close companion, Hazel Largess of Millbury; nephews and nieces. He is predeceased by a brother, Charles Leary and a sister, Vivian Frazier. He was born in Millbury, son of Charles L. and Cora (Gaucher) Leary and lived here all his life. He attended Millbury Schools.
Mr. Leary was a truck driver for many trucking companies. He owned and operator R.L. Leary & Son Oil Co. for many years until 1971 and was a custodian for the Millbury School Department for 11 years, retiring in 1992. He was an Army Veteran during WW II.
He was a member of St. BrigidTM)s church, a member of the Dudley-Gendron American Legion Post in Sutton and a past member of the Local #170 Teamsters Union in Worcester. He was a former elected member of the Parks Commission in Millbury He was an honored WW II veteran at the Diploma Recognition Program at Millbury Memorial High School last year.
A funeral will be held Thursday, Dec. 6, from Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St. with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. BrigidTM)s Church, 59 Main St. Burial will be in St. BrigidTM)s Cemetery. Calling hours are 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5 at the funeral home
