MILLBURY Robert G. Mercer, 77, of 8 Tiffany Circle, died Monday. Oct. 1st at home, after a short illness.
He leaves four children, Debra E. Pierce of Worcester, Sandra L. Thomas of Higganum, CT, John J., Mercer of Marlborough and Heidi M. Trockman of Bedford; a sister, Shirley Sesito of NH; four brothers, Calvin Mercer of Georgia, Herbert Mercer of NC, Donald Mercer of Florida, Warner Mercer of NC; two grandchildren, Tara L. Stoppa and Alexzandra Thomas; nephews and nieces. He was born in Boston and is predeceased by his parents, Jordan and Winifred Mercer, a son Robert G. Mercer Jr., three brothers, Melvin, Stanley and Walter Mercer.
Mr. Mercer worked at CarlingTM)s Brewery in Natick for 23 years and then worked at New England Grocers for the Teamsters Local #170 in Northborough for 15 years, retiring in 1992. BobTM)s greatest joy was spending time with his children, grandchildren and his cat Mrs. B. He loved riding his bicycle and working out at the YMCA with his friends. He was an avid fisherman, carpenter, card player and was a Red SoxTM)s and Patriot fan.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday Oct. 5th at 11 a.m. in the Burncoat Baptist Church, 475 Burncoat St., Worcester. There are no calling hours. Mulhane Home for Funeral, 45 Main St., Millbury is assisting the family with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society 30 Speen St. Framingham, MA 01701 or to the American Lung Association of Massachusetts 460 Totten Pond Rd. Waltham, MA 02451.
