Roger M. Corey, 86, died peacefully Tuesday at UMASS Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, surrounded by his family.
He leaves his wife, Katherine A. (Harris) Corey; four daughters, Kate (Corey) Marcum of Grafton and her companion, Stephen Bonina, Sue Nydam and her husband, James of Sutton, Christine Sabourin and her husband, Roger of Sutton and Virginia Nelson and her husband, Scott of Millbury; a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Corey of Grafton; grandchildren, Ken Corey, Jen LeFort, Roger and Rob Sabourin, Ashley and Harris Marcum, Ted Nydam and Collin Nelson; two great-granddaughters, Kacey and Dakota; nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his parents, Clement P. and Alice (Hodgson) Corey and two sons, Michael and Kevin Corey, a brother, Norris Corey and a granddaughter, Kristen Corey.
Roger was President of the Millbury National Bank from 1970 to 1995, when he retired and he served as Chairman of the Board of Directors until his death. Prior to this, he worked in the computer department of the Worcester County National Bank in Worcester. He was an Army veteran during the Korean War. His hobbies included Ham Radio Operator, fine furniture design and production, skiing at Mt. Wachusett, and sailing his Boston Whaler, on Lake Singletary. He was a member of the Old Car Club in Worcester and took pride in his 1909 Maxwell. Roger loved to explore the world and traveled to five out of the seven continents with his wife Katherine. He was an avid reader and enjoyed history.
His funeral will be held on Friday, August 12th from Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 N. Main St. in Millbury, with a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Philip's Church, 12 West St. in Grafton. Calling hours are 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, August 11th in the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Philip's Cemetery in Grafton. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kristen Clare Corey Memorial Scholarship Fund, in care of the Millbury National Bank, 18 Main St. Millbury, MA 01527.
