Roland Couture, 81, died peacefully on June 1st, surrounded by his devoted and loving wife and family.
He is survived by his best friend and the love of his life, his wife of 44 years, Dorothy Couture, his daughter Pamela Perkins and her husband David of Millbury, his three grandchildren, Brandon, Chelsea and Jillian Perkins of Millbury, daughter in-law Anne Couture of West Roxbury, his brothers Robert Couture and wife Karen of Charlton, Kenneth Corey and wife Janice of Auburn, Richard Corey and wife Janice of Northbridge, Dennis Corey and wife Marilyn of Jacksonville FL, Roger Corey and wife Jean of Tyngsboro, David Corey and wife Rae of Cincinnati OH, Herbert Corey and wife Jerry of Auburn , Charles Corey of Auburn, Arthur Corey and wife Loretta of Millbury, James Williams of Jacksonville FL, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and many, many friends.
He is predeceased by his first wife Dorothy (Croteau) Couture, son Raymond Couture, brothers Richard Couture and Robert Corey, and stepfather Stephen Corey.
Roland was born in Millbury to Oliver and Beatrice (Allard) Couture. Roland left school early to serve in the U.S. Navy from 1952-1956 where he served his country proudly in the Korean War. In 2000 he received his diploma from Millbury High School as part of "Operation Recognition". He worked for the Worcester Gas Company for 35 years. He was a lifetime member of the Millbury VFW Post 3329, a 25-year member of the American Legion Dudley- Gendron Post 0414, a member of the Millbury "Old Timer's Club" and a member of the Singletary Rod and Gun Club. He was involved in instituting the Millbury Men's and Women's Softball League and the lights at Windle field and served as the President for many years. Roland loved to hunt, fish, collect and sell baseball cards, cook and entertain family and friends
His wife and family would like to thank his home health aide Diane, from Elderwood Home care, Hospice Aide Maureen, and all of the Hospice staff, and Dr. Mary Wendel and her staff, for all of their wonderful care and support.
Roland's calling hours will be held on Friday, June 3rd from 4 to 8 p.m. in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main Street in Millbury.
His funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 4th with a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Brigid Church, 59 Main Street in Millbury. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Brigid Cemetery, Millbury.
