MILLBURY - Roland M. Lachance, 95, died on March 24, 2021 at Notre Dame Long Term Care Center in Worcester.

Roland is survived by his wife of 72 years, Kay M. Lachance; four children, Linda, Pat and her husband Don, Richard and his wife Penny, Brian and his wife Jamie; sixteen grandchildren; Marc and his wife Katie, Craig and his wife Amy, Shana, Oliver and his fiancé Amanda, Vanessa and her husband Kyle, Ashley and her husband John, Shawn and his wife Jennifer, Brian Jr. and his wife Colleen, Gretchen and her husband Jason, Seth and his wife Laura, Jennifer, Justin, Ryan, Shaina, Jennifer and Heather and her husband Joshua ; twenty four great grandchildren, Erin, Lily, Danny, Matthew, Isabella, Cora, Parker, Aiden, Owen, Caitlyn, Samantha, Jazzlynn, Thomas, Bryanna, Jasmine, Moriah, Daniel, Dash, Jordyn, Jalynn, Tristan, Taylor, Joshua and Lillian; two sisters, Renee Hall and Rita Lemieux and her husband Roy; his beloved “sweetheart” and constant companion, 5 year old Shih Tzu, Gabbie.  He is predeceased by his parents, Lucien and Agnes Lachance, a sister, Rachel Caplette, a grandson, Jason Lachance, and brother-in-law, Robert Hall.

Roland was a lifelong resident of Millbury living in the house where he was born.  He is a World War II Navy veteran serving on the USS Vicksburg.  Roland was a member and previous chaplain and historian of the Charles F. Minney V.F.W Post 3329, Devoe-Taylor American Legion Post #9 and the Millbury Veterans Council. He participated in many Memorial and Veteran Day School events along with Memorial Day parades.  He was the Grand Marshall in the Millbury Bicentennial parade on June 23, 2013 with Joseph Bianculli.  Roland was a Millbury Little League Manager- CD Whitney and Millbury Pee Wee Basketball coach. He was co-recipient of the Man of Distinction Award for Millbury Old Timers in 2017. He served on the Millbury Board of Selectman, Millbury Parks Commission, Millbury Planning Board, Millbury School Committee and School Building Committee for Shaw Elementary, Millbury Historical Commission and Asa Waters Band Stand Committee.

Roland was a member of the First Congregational Church.  His former employers were IBA, Millbury, Swift & Company, Armour Company and Snyder Beef all in Worcester. He is the former owner of North Main Street Market at the current Puffin Restaurant location in Millbury.

Family and friends will honor and remember Roland’s life with a time of visitation on Monday, March 29th from 4 to 7 p.m. at Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 N. Main Street in Millbury.

All social gathering guidelines regarding face masks and social distancing will be enforced.

Roland’s funeral service and burial will be private.
