SUTTON – Ronald E. McCrohon, 73, beloved husband, father and grandfather, died Wednesday at the Rose Monahan Hospice Home in Worcester after a year-long struggle with cancer. He leaves his best friend, business partner, and wife of 53 years, Patricia L. (Bolafka) McCrohon. Ron was born in Worcester, son of the late Mary Cernis and Joseph McCrohon. He was also lovingly raised by his late "Pop," Vincent Cernis. Ron leaves two daughters: Laurie and her husband, Kevin Hickey, Noelle and her husband Paul Buffone, and four grandchildren, Conor and Patrick Hickey, Jarod and Justin Buffone. Ron is also survived by his brother Jim McCrohon and his wife Marie, his sister Madeline Figueras and her husband Chico, his sister-in-law, Laura Fleming, and several nieces and nephews.
A stand-out athlete, Ron graduated from St. John's H.S. in 1955 as an All-City, Central New England Quarterback. He graduated from the former Worcester Junior College and attended Clark University. He served 11 years in the U.S. Army National Guard 181st Yankee Division as a Staff Sgt. He was a National Sales Manager for Dunham and Smith Military Brokerage before opening the Elm Draughthouse Cinema in 1983. With his sunny smile and friendly manner, he met and made many friends. Ron enjoyed his retirement on Lake Manchaug, boating, fishing, golfing, and enjoying time with his family. Ron's family would like to express its deep appreciation for the care received at Beaumont Rehabilitation in Northbridge, St. Vincent Hospital, and Rose Monahan Hospice. As a generous man, Ron often quietly helped those in need and supported many charities. A great way to remember Ron would be to support a charity of your choice or a local food bank.
His funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 17th in St. Mark's Church, 356 Boston Rd. in Sutton. The family respectfully request that those attending the funeral Mass go directly to the church. Burial will be in St. Philip's Cemetery in Grafton. There are no calling hours. Mulhane Home for Funerals in Millbury is assisting the family with the arrangements.
