Sgt. William "Billy" T. Cygielnik, 65, died Tuesday, May 13th in his home surrounded by his loving family.
Billy leaves his wife, Sharon Markiewicz of Oxford; three children, Alisa Ballou and her husband, Glen of Douglas, William A. Cygielnik and his wife, Priscilla of Roanoke, VA and Rebecca Ray and her husband, Jeffery of Stoughton; two step children, Katie Shiel of Monson and Richard Markiewicz of Brighton; three grandchildren, Aaron, Shelby and Ayla; a sister, Martha Plotczyk of Palm Desert, CA; a brother, John Cygielnik of Shrewsbury; one niece and two nephews. He is predeceased by his grandson, Brandon Ballou.
Billy was a veteran of the Vietnam War with the 25th Infantry Division of the United States Army. He was the crew chief on Huey Helicopters and proudly served his country. Billy attended Worcester State College and graduated with a B.A. in English and Business with an A.S. in Photography. He retired as a member of the Teamsters Local Union 170 and owned and operated a welding business.
Billy was an avid traveler and loved the open road, traveling the U.S.A. Billy's hobbies include fishing, sewing, and working around his home and garden. Billy will always be remembered for the Astro van, Chincoteague Island, VA and his creative inventions.
Billy's calling hours will be held on Saturday, May 17th from 2 to 5 p.m. in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main Street in Millbury.
His funeral service with military honors will be held immediately following the calling hours at 5 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Brandon Ballou Scholarship Fund c/o Unibank, 4 Mechanic Street, Douglas MA 01516.
