SUTTON Statia G. (Stopyra) Chase, 90, formerly of Blackstone St., died peacefully surrounded by her family, Thursday, May 17th in St. Camillus Health Center, Whitinsville.
She leaves a son, Herbert Chase of Sutton; two daughters, Geraldine wife of Edward Coady of Dudley and Christine Chase wife of Barry Freedman of North Oxford; a sister, Dolores wife of E. Louis Kapernaros of Florida; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; nephews and nieces. She was born in South Grafton and is predeceased by her parents, Stanley and Salomea (Sabanski) Stopyra, two sisters, Viola Gosselin and Wander Wenc and a brother, Richard Stopyra. Statia was raised in Worcester and graduated from the former Commerce High School in 1934. Later she moved to Sutton, where she spent the remainder of her life raising her family.
Mrs. Chase was a member of St. MarkTM)s Church, the Sutton Council on Aging and the Whitinsville Center. She was a volunteer at the Worcester Art Museum and took many courses at Worcester State College. She loved swimming, writing, painting, sewing, gardening and traveling.
Her funeral will be held Monday, May 21st from Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St., Millbury, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. MarkTM)s Church, 356 Boston Rd., Sutton. Burial will be in Howard Cemetery, Sutton. Calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, May 20th in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Activity Fund of St. Camillus Health Center, 447 Hill St., Whitinsville, MA 01588 or to NEADS National Office, P.O. Box 213, West Boylston, MA 01583.
