SUTTON – Thomas J. Boria, 87, of Sutton and formerly of Wallum Lake, Douglas, died Saturday, July 19th, in St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester.
He leaves his wife, Virginia A. (Tubbs) Boria, and children, Peter A. Boria of Millbury, Paul L. Boria of Charlton, Linda J. Boria of Millbury, Lynne E. Sayah of Sutton, Gayle A. Blomstrom of Sutton, and Diane M. Salmonsen of Sutton, his sisters Theresa Matusek of Shrewsbury and Tefta Boria of Harwichport, ten grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was born in Worcester and is predeceased by his parents, John and Effegjini Boria.
Tom returned to Millbury after serving two-and-a-half years with a U.S. Navy Construction Battalion ("Seabees") during World War II and in 1950, in a two-car garage at 34 Howe Ave. in Millbury, he started United Tool and Manufacturing, Inc. Later, with Walter Nartowt, he began County Heat Treat, Inc. During many successful years of business, his generosity and achievements were limitless – he was even known to pay college tuition for employees' children. After retirement, he spent time with Virginia in Florida in their winter home, but his ambition won out again and they returned to Wallum Lake where he invented and patented time-saving devices for CNC equipment. He lived and loved the business of machine-tool design. He was a private pilot and flew his float plane from Wallum Lake, where he and Virginia lived for 38 years. He also enjoyed hunting, from Alaska to Newfoundland, with his sons and friends. He was a passionate gardener, a member and Past Master of the Olive Branch Lodge of Masons in Millbury, a 50-year veteran of the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts, and a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry. Tom will live in the hearts of all his children, grandchildren, many friends and neighbors, and especially his wife Virginia, forever.
His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 22nd in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St., Millbury. Burial will be private in West Sutton Cemetery. There will be a calling hour for family and close friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, prior to the funeral service in the funeral home.
