Timothy Elton Hawes, 78 of Millbury, MA, fought a remarkable battle with cancer for 5 years and finally succumbed to heart failure at UMASS Memorial Hospital University Campus on January 28, 2024 surrounded by his family. 


Tim was born in Framingham in 1945 to Burt and Alice Hawes. He enjoyed playing high school hockey and football.  Tim was a Vietnam Veteran serving as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps from 1964 to 1968. He attended Middlesex Community College, graduating with an Associate Degree in Radiology and also Fisher College, earning an Associate Degree in Computer Science.  Tim was a jack of many trades doing home repairs, fixing automobiles, working at Mass General Hospital as an Xray technician, mechanical technician for Corning, and driving for Knights Limo and the Millbury Senior Center. 


Tim met the love of his life, Fran in 1970 and they married 2 months later.  They shared 53 years together residing in Acton, MA, Littleton, MA, in a trailer while they traveled across the country for a year, in Concord, NH, Leominster, MA, Shrewsbury, MA, and currently Millbury, MA.  They made many wonderful memories together and enjoyed spending time with their family and traveling. 


Tim is survived by his loving daughters, Cris Siler of Fitchburg, MA and Dana Mendes and her husband Joe of Hudson, NH and his grandchildren Nicole Siler and her husband Derek Underwood of Fitchburg, Jason Siler of Fitchburg, Tim Blair, Julia Mendes, Diego Mendes and Mateo Mendes all of Hudson, NH.  Tim treasured his time with his grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren attending their events and spending time and playing games with them.  He loved his role of Grandpa, Papa, and Greepa. 


Tim was preceded in death by his parents Burt and Alice Hawes, his sisters Alice Lennon and Pauline Hughes, Brother-in-Law Franny Hughes, his Mother and Father-in-law Dorothy and Francis Smith and son-in-law Scott Siler and is survived by his brother Burt and his wife Tina Hawes of Natick, his sister Carol DeMasi and her husband Italo of Natick and his Brother and Sister-in-law Gary and Judy Smith of Millbury, Ma.  As well as many loving nieces and nephews. 


Family and friends will remember and celebrate Tim’s life by gathering for calling hours on Saturday, Feb. 10th from 1 to 3 p.m. in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 N. Main Street, Millbury.  

Tim’s military honors, presented by the United States Marine Corp, will be held following the calling hours at 3 p.m. in the funeral home.
