MILTON, DE - Vivian Emilie Brierly, age 85, lost her battle with cancer on Monday, September 24, 2007 at her residence.
She was born in Poughkeepsie, NY on October 30, 1921 to Emil Bernard and Amelia Marie Ichla. In 1924, the family moved to northern New Jersey -- Teaneck, Allendale, and Ridgefield Park -- where she attended elementary, grammar, and the first year of high school. In 1936, the family moved to the Bronx, New York City where she attended 10th grade at Isaac Walton High School. The family moved to Newark, DE in 1937 where she graduated from Newark High School in 1939. After completing two years of study at the University of Delaware, she entered the workforce with DuPont Company. She was married January 25, 1947, in West Presbyterian Church, Wilmington, DE, by Pastor Kleffman. Since 2001, she has lived in Milton and has been a volunteer mentor in the HOSTS program at H. O. Brittingham Elementary School since its inception in the same year.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Bernard William Ichla; husband, William Biggar Brierly; and companion, Dale Henry Yocum. She is survived by son, William of Milton, DE; son, James of Worcester, MA; daughter and son-in-law, Emilie and William Truscott of North Wales, PA; son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Joanne of Mullica Hill, NJ; son and daughter-in-law, David and Kathy of Springfield, VA; grandchildren, Marlena, Joshuah, Lauren, Benjamin, Ian, Kristin; and, numerous nieces and nephews.
A gravesite service for family and friends will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 6, 2007, Central Cemetery, corner of West and Waters Streets, Millbury, Massachusetts, where she will be buried next to her husband.
