WORCESTER Walter "John" J. Platukis, 73, of 201 Providence St., formerly of Middleton, died peacefully on Sunday, Aug. 28th in St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester.
He leaves his wife, Eleanor (Dailida) Platukis of Millbury; a son, Steven J. Platukis of Worcester and a daughter, Cynthia M. wife of Gary Bunnewith of Millbury; three grandchildren, Corey, Brandon and Marissa Bunnewith of Millbury. He was born in Worcester, son of John and Dorothy (Rubchinuk) Platukis.
Mr. Platukis was a custodian at the David Clark Co. in Worcester before he retired. He previously worked at the New England High Carbon Wire Co. in Millbury and at J.R. Construction of Middleton. He was an Air Force veteran during the Korean War where he earned a National Defense Service Medal. He enjoyed talking and being with his 3 grandchildren whenever possible. If there was a baseball, football or basketball game on the television you knew where John would be - in front of that television watching and yelling. His little jokes and the smile that followed will be missed by all.
He was Post Commander of American Legion Post #227 in Middleton for many years before moving to Worcester. Here he was a member Vernon Hill American Legion Post in Worcester and the AARP Greendale Chapter in Worcester.
Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1st in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St., Millbury. Burial will be private in Central Cemetery, Millbury. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association 20 Speen St. Framingham, MA 01701.
