SUTTON/GRAFTON –William A. Pepka Sr., 94, of Sutton, formerly of South Grafton, died Wednesday, June 23rd.
He leaves his wife, Alfreda (Holewa) Pepka; a son, William A. Pepka Jr. and his wife, Priscilla of Sutton; a daughter, Janice L. Pepka of Whitinsville; three sisters, Clara Stawicki of Northampton, Lorraine Jablonski of Holden and Lillian Plasse of Shrewsbury; many nieces and nephews. He was born in Dudley, son of Frank and Helen (Zajac) Pepka. He was predeceased by three brothers, Edward, Peter, and Chester Pepka and two sisters, Ann Kurowski and Frances Rembiszewski. Mr. and Mrs. Pepka would have celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary on June 27th. He graduated from Becker Junior College in Worcester.
Mr. Pepka retired as an assistant clerk of the Worcester Superior Court in 1988. Previously he was owner/manager of the former Jim's Inn in the Farnumsville section of South Grafton. He was a member of the Benedict Council Knights of Columbus of Grafton and the Worcester Polish American Veterans. He was a WW II Army Veteran and was honorably discharged as a Second Lieutenant in December 1945 from the 57th Signal Corps.
Mr. Pepka was an avid sports fan, especially Red Sox and Celtics. He greatly enjoyed card playing with his family and was extremely proud of his Polish heritage. His wit and sense of humor will be greatly missed.
His funeral will be held Saturday, June 26th from the Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St. in Millbury, with a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church, 1 Cross St. in Whitinsville. Burial will be private in St. Joseph Garden of Peace Cemetery in Webster. There will be a calling hour from 8 to 9 a.m. Saturday, June 26th prior to the funeral Mass at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation, P. O. Box 515, Northampton, MA 01061-0515.
