Butch Moore

January 10, 1938 — April 3, 2001

SUTTON - Butch Moore, 63, of 267 Manchaug Road, a showband pop singer in Ireland and an Irish entertainer in this country, formerly of Dublin, Ireland died Tuesday, April 3, in his home, after an short illness.

He leaves his wife, Maeve F. (Mulvany) Moore; three sons, Gary Moore of Scotland, Rory M. Moore and Thomas M. Moore of Sutton; three daughters, Karen Markham of Scotland, Grainne Geller of Dumont, N. J. and Tara M. Moore of Dublin, Ireland; three brothers Thomas Moore, Desmond Moore both of Ireland and Brendan Moore of England; a sister, Marie Curran of Ireland; five grandchildren; nephews and nieces. He was born in Dublin, Ireland, son of Thomas and Nora (Faye) Moore and came to this country in 1970.

When Mr. Moore and his wife came to this country, they preformed together under the name of Butch and Maeve as entertainers of Irish and American pop music. They preformed in the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., Carnegie Hall in New York City, Mechanics Hall in Worcester, in Springfield and many others concert Hall from Maine to Texas. He and his wife owned and operated the Parting Glass Pub in Millbury for five years. He then worked for the Worcester County SherriffTM)s Department in Worcester until the present time.

Mr. Moore began his climb up the music ladder in his native Dublin as a 16 year old guitarist and singer. From playing parish hall shows, solo to small clubs with rock, pop and jazz groups. In 1965 Butch won the first National Song contest and as IrelandTM)s first ever entry into the Eurovision song contest He was know as a Showband Legend in Ireland and performed in many famous places in Ireland and Europe. His recent CD is Through the Years.

He was a member of St. MarkTM)s Church and a former member of the Millbury Lions Club.

A funeral will be held Friday, April 6, from Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St. Millbury, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. MarkTM)s Church, 356 Boston Rd. Burial will be in Ireland. Calling hours are 6 to 9 p.m., Thursday, April 5, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, Ma. 01701
